Although the city high school football teams didn't fare as well as they would have liked to this season, that doesn't mean there wasn't some success on the gridiron this fall.

Flagstaff Youth Football had big numbers and posted a lot of wins and this weekend four teams from the youth league will play for a championship today in Cottonwood as part of Northern Arizona Youth Football.

Flagstaff Youth Football is separated into four divisions and the league had success in all four.

In the mighty mite division, which is for ages 6-8, the Flagstaff Rams will be playing for the championship this weekend against the Chino Valley Titans.

The Rams outlasted the Flagstaff Giants, Broncos and Vikings and had some success in the first couple rounds of the playoffs to make it to this weekend. The Rams are paced by a three-headed attack at running back in Alex Nelson, Chance Kortsen and Kaden Doucette. Quarterback Ty Furr has also been a key contributor for the Rams.

The Rams' game is set for 9 a.m. Saturday at Cottonwood Mingus High.

The Giants, also in the mighty mite division, will play for third place at 9 a.m. at Cottonwood Middle School.

In the minors division, the Jacks, Cardinals and Packers have all been eliminated, but the 49ers will play the Cottonwood Packers at 11 a.m. today at Cottonwood Middle for third place.

The majors division, which is for ages 11-13, will have two Flagstaff teams dueling for the championship. With the Saints and Ravens already eliminated, the Raiders and Chargers will face off with a title on the line.

The Raiders are led by quarterback Kyle Kortsen and running backs Trace Anderson and Torrin Palmer.

The Chargers also have plenty of playmakers including Kyle Wilson at quarterback and Nick Onderjech and Zach Olsen at running back.

That game is set for 1 p.m. at Mingus.

The final team playing for a title is the Flagstaff Falcons in the senior division. The senior division is for ages 12-14, or middle school kids.

The Falcons, led by quarterback Chris Baird, running back Cody Phillpott and wide receiver Travis Walters, will play Chino Valley at 3 p.m. today at Mingus.

In all, Northern Arizona Youth Football consists of 385 football players and cheerleaders. The teams involved in the league are Flagstaff, Williams, Prescott Valley, Chino Valley, Cottonwood, Camp Verde, Sedona, Baghdad and Dewey.

There are 52 total teams. The season began Aug. 1 and will conclude this weekend. There is also a Northern Arizona Cheer Competition, which begins at 5 p.m. at Mingus.

"It's been great to see the community have some success on the field this year," Flagstaff Youth Football president Mark Furr said. "There's a lot of talent in this town from baseball to football and it's nice to see the kids come out the way they have. We're excited about the future of these kids."
