MESA (AP) — Ivy Kate Casteel couldn't wait for a hospital.
Instead of doctors, two Gilbert police officers delivered the baby in her grandmother's PT Cruiser in a church parking lot.
Ivy Kate's parents Megan and Matthew Casteel were on their way to Mercy Gilbert Medical Center when the baby started coming Monday morning.
Fifteen minutes away from the hospital and a baby on the way, Matthew Casteel wheeled into a church parking lot at Lindsay and Elliot Roads and dialed 911. Gilbert police Detective Jon Halliday and Officer Michael Cluff responded and delivered the baby in the passenger seat of her grandmother's car.
Ivy Kate weighed in at 10 pounds and 6 ounces.
This is the Casteels' sixth child. The Mesa couple now have three girls and three boys.
