PHOENIX (AP) — The slumping economy has led mall developer Westcor to put off for several years plans for a regional mall in Goodyear.
Westcor wants as much as four years before breaking ground on the Estrella Falls mall.
Westcor's Vice President of Development Garrett Newland told the Goodyear City Council Monday the company is unable to deliver the mall as planned.
Under a development deal with Goodyear, Westcor is required to finish the mall by the end of 2012.
Because of the recession, Westcor is seeking to extend the deadline to at least the end of 2014 and possibly 2016.
Westcor would pay Goodyear $1.3 million in fees to extend the deadline to the end of 2014.
