We don't know about you, but this week's warmer weather has us thinking about summer already.
And with "staycations" the new buzz word, kids and teens will be spending more time closer to home this summer — a development that can be both an opportunity and a challenge.
But as Abbie Gripman reported two Sundays ago, Flagstaff has no shortage of day camps for all kinds of interests, including animals, computers, sports, art and drama.
For general-interest, all-day camps, there are three options: the Flagstaff Unified School District's FACTS program, the city of Flagstaff's summer day camps and the Flagstaff Family YMCA.
FACTS
FACTS is open to are kids ages 5 to 12 at Kinsey Elementary School weekdays, June 15 through July 31, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Children will participate in sports, other recreation, take field trips, and more. There is a $25 annual registration fee. The hourly rate is $3 per hour, $5 per hour for two children or $7 per hour for three or more children. For more information, call 527-6180. FACTS does not offer scholarships for summer.
CITY OF FLAGSTAFF
The city of Flagstaff's summer day camps will run weekdays June 8 through Aug. 7, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and are open to kids ages 5 to 12. Each week has a different theme and includes visits to the Aquaplex. The camp will be held at the McPherson Recreation Center and costs $90 per week. Call 779-0037 for more information or register at any of the city's recreation centers.
YMCA
Flagstaff Family YMCA offers summer day camps beginning June 8. The full-day camp is open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is $90-$125 per week. The YMCA can accommodate kids ages 2 to 12. Visit www.valleyymca.org or call 556-9622.
