Six people have been arrested in connection with a rash of burglaries happening in the southeast corner of the county in Forest Lakes.
According to information from the Coconino County Sheriff's Office, three homes were burglarized between September and early November. Sheriff's investigators, working with the U.S. Forest Service to track down some illegal campers in the area at about the same time, wound up at a home in Payson.
The home was full of merchandise from two of the burglaries. A subsequent search warrant search turned up a large amount of property stolen from other area burglaries. Among the stolen items were an all-terrain vehicle, large-screen TV, a handgun, DVD players, outdoor gear, personal clothing and property and tools.
Arrested and booked into the Coconino County jail were:
— David S. Chovanec, 41, of Payson, for possession of stolen property and false information;
— Robert W. Caruso, 40, of Payson, for possession of a stolen handgun and weapons misconduct;
— Steven A. Duncan, 47, of Strawberry, for possession of stolen property;
— Martha L. Deason, 46, of Payson, for possession of stolen property;
— Anna L. Oates, 42, of Payson, for outstanding arrest warrants;
— Paul L. Gilbert, 38, for outstanding arrest warrants.
Sheriff's officials would like to remind residents to mark and record items of value so, if they are stolen, they can be identified and returned to the rightful owner if found.
