Aspen firewood will be available for residents with valid fuelwood permits Saturday. The wood will be available May 9 only beginning at 8 a.m. and running to 5 p.m., according to information from the U.S. Forest Service.
Wood will be available to anyone with a valid 2009 Fuelwood Permit from the Coconino National Forest. Charge and Free-Use Permit holders are welcome.
Lockett Meadow will be open only to fuelwood collection. Trailhead use and camping will not be allowed until the campground's seasonal opening May 15.
Logs, dead and down, were cut during a recent hazard- tree removal project. People with permits should plan to cut and haul their own wood and no off-road driving will be permitted.
Because Lockett Meadow road is a winding and very narrow mountain road, trailers are not recommended.
For more information, or to get a fuelwood permit, contact the Peaks Ranger Station at 526-0866.
