Highway patrol officers seized $207,630 during a traffic stop on Interstate 40 Saturday.

The stop happened at about 1 p.m. in the westbound lanes of the highway about 4 miles east of Flagstaff, said Detective David Ernst of the Arizona Department of Public Safety. The driver of a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee was accused of an unsafe lane change and an obstruction to the windshield.

A drug-sniffing dog alerted on the back of the Cherokee. In the back were several pieces of luggage that had the shrink-wrapped cash inside, Ernst said.

"During the interview, he admitted somebody asked him to transport this money and when I asked him if he thought the money was drug related, he said, 'absolutely,'" Ernst said.

Brian Sadewasser, 40, of Oakland, Calif., was booked into the county jail on one count of money laundering.

Ernst said the money was on its way back to Oakland. The investigation is ongoing.
