The Northern Arizona Law Enforcement Blood Drive kicks off next week.

The blood drive will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday and 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Law Enforcement Administrative Facility, 911 E. Sawmill Road, according to information from the police department.

United Blood Services is currently in crisis because some summer blood drives have not turned out as expected. Everybody who donates blood will get a pass for the Arizona Snowbowl Scenic Skyride and will be entered into a drawing for a 2010 Volkswagen Beetle, courtesy of Peoria Volkswagen.

Benefit run for ill, disabled children taking registration

Machine Solutions Run for CHC benefits chronically ill and disabled children.

For more than 30 years, runners and walkers have enjoyed Flagstaff's fresh air, pines and high altitude while helping to support the medical needs of children by participating in the Machine Solutions Run for CHC. The annual fundraiser, which benefits the Children's Health Center at Flagstaff Medical Center, will be Aug. 7. CHC provides specialty pediatric outpatient clinics and health care for Northern Arizona children with disabilities or chronic illnesses.

This year's event will include a 5k and 10k trail run or a 2k family fitness walk/run along Soldiers Trail at the Fort Tuthill County Fairgrounds. The event is the fifth run in the sixth annual Flagstaff Summer Running Series.

Early registration fees (before Aug. 5) are $35 for the 5k ($40 after Aug. 5) and $40 for the 10kK ($45 after Aug. 5). Fees for the 2k family fitness run are $50 for up to four family members and $20 for individual participants.

Registration is from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. at the Posse Ramada, with the races beginning at 8 a.m. All participants will receive a T-shirt. Awards will be given to the overall men's and women's winners in both the 5k and 10k runs, and the top three winners in each age category in the 5k and 10k runs.

To pre-register before Aug. 5, visit virtual roster.com or call 773-2135. To learn more about FMC's Children's Health Center, visit FlagstaffMedicalCenter.com.
