Northern Arizona Peace Corps Volunteers have adopted a two-mile segment of AZ 67 on the Kaibab Plateau, south of Jacobs Lake from mileposts 607 to 609, as part of the Arizona Department of Transportation Adopt-a-Highway Program.
The returned Peace Corps Volunteers and friends picked up trash on this beautiful segment of highway on June 9.
Under the ADOT Adopt-a-Highway Program, more than 2,000 groups, including families, businesses, civic and community organizations, have helped keep the state highways clean since 1988.
By adopting a highway, groups make a two-year commitment to pick up litter along a section of roadway at least three times per year. In recognition of efforts to enhance the environment, ADOT recognizes these groups with a roadside sign that displays the organization's name along the adopted highway section.
By adopting a highway, citizens can help the state save more than $1 million per year.
