Local and state groups are handing out information, phone numbers and supplies to people choosing to quit smoking this week, with the American Cancer Society proposing all smokers quit for the day on Thursday as part of a national event.
Coconino County Health Department will be handing out sandwiches and information, including numbers and addresses for text messaging and chat rooms to help smokers quit, on:
— Tuesday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at North Country HealthCare
— Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at NAU Student Union
— Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Coconino County Health Dept.
— Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Wal-Mart
It can take eight to 10 attempts before a smoker quits smoking long-term, according to the Cancer Society.
For more tips, there's www.ASHLine.org or (800) 556-6222 or Coconino County Health at 679-7263.
