Tests have come back negative on the Northern Arizona University student who health officials originally thought was a "probable" case of swine flu.

The Coconino County Health Department notified NAU officials Saturday that the tests from the Centers for Disease Control reveal the student did not have swine flu.

The 19-year-old student, who originally reported flu-like symptoms on April 24, is fully recovered, according to Beth Applebee, director of NAU's Fronske Health Center.

No other suspected cases have been reported at NAU. Currently, there are no positive swine flu cases in Coconino County.

A physician at NAU's clinic tested the student for influenza on Wednesday and came up with a negative, but sent tests to state labs anyhow after the student complained of a sore throat and aches that appeared to be consistent with the flu.

The stricken student is living in a residence hall on campus and had been asked to wear a mask when she leaves the room.

She was not in isolation, but has been offered a private room if she wants one.

NAU is operating under normal business conditions. The schedule for final exams and commencement remains unchanged at this time. The county health department is working with NAU to communicate to friends and family members of graduating students to please remain at home if they are experiencing flu-like symptoms.

As of Saturday, the Arizona Department of Health Services had identified 13 additional cases of new swine influenza in Arizona. This brings the total number of swine influenza cases in Arizona to 17 scattered in 4 southern counties.
