Road construction, Traffic restrictions
MONDAY-THURSDAY I-17: Crews are repairing the roadway subsurface along Interstate 17 southbound between Pulliam Airport Traffic Interchange and Munds Park Traffic Interchange. Lane restrictions may be in effect along southbound I-17 from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Motorists will experience narrow lanes, reduced speeds, and rough road conditions. The project is scheduled for completion in late July. Information is available at (888) 236-4374.
BR 40: Repaving of Business Route 40 from Switzer Canyon Drive through downtown Flagstaff to Pine Springs (Woody Mountain Road area on Route 66). Crews will begin roadway repairs at night in the project area. Work will be between the hours of 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. Ongoing construction activity and shoulder work in the intersection of Woodlands Village Boulevard and may cause nighttime and daytime delays. The project is scheduled for completion in October. Project information is available at (888) 236-4374.
MONDAY-FRIDAY
U.S. Hwy 89: Northbound and southbound left lanes along Hwy. 89 may be restricted while crews install medians and work on curbs, between Cummings Street and Lockett Avenue. 24 hours per day.
ONGOING
North Stardust Trail: A road improvement and paving project is scheduled to begin on North Stardust Trail, with an anticipated completion date of Oct. 1. Work will be 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. Traffic will be restricted to one lane at times during the work day. For information, call Lindsay Daley 526-2735, Ext. 17.
Industrial Drive: Closed as crews demolish the decommissioned bridge over the BNSF railway and Industrial, 24 hours per day. Scheduled to reopen the week of July 21.
Route 66: Closed intermittently as crews demolish decommissioned bridge, 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Scheduled to reopen July 21.
Huntington Drive: The city of Flagstaff is performing a roadway improvement project on Huntington Drive between Bronco Way and Enterprise Road. Construction continues on the north side of the street. The road width will be tapered to two travel lanes; the center turn lane will be temporarily removed. Expect intermittent full road closures. Construction will last until October 2008. FIRE RESTRICTIONS
Fire danger -- Very High: Stage One campfire and smoking restrictions are in effect for Coconino and Kaibab national forests. Smoking is allowed only in enclosed vehicles or at developed campgrounds. Campfires and charcoal fires are only allowed in developed campgrounds. Fireworks are always prohibited in the national forest.
City of Flagstaff has started restrictions as well, by banning open burning and prohibiting smoking on the urban trail system. Barbecue grills at Thorpe and McPherson parks have been removed.
