'A Night at the Oscars' raises funds for Theatrikos
Flagstaff Oscar Night organizers are celebrating that a deal has been reached with the Writers' Guild and that the show will go on. The "show," being The 80th Annual Academy Awards, hosted this year by comedian Jon Stewart.
"A Night at the Oscars" is Theatrikos' most important fundraiser of the year. Guests will be treated to Flagstaff's own red carpet, food, silent auction, trivia games, and of course, a live telecast of the Oscars on the big screen. The festivities will be at Flagstaff's historic Orpheum Theater, 15 W. Aspen Ave. on Sunday, Feb. 24, with doors opening at 5 p.m. "This year's Oscar night promises to be our biggest yet. Downtown Flagstaff is the place to be this year for the Academy Awards. Dress up or dress casually, but make sure you don't miss this event," said Lynn Spence, managing director of Theatrikos Theatre Company.
A red carpet will lead guests down the aisle of the Orpheum Theater, where they'll enjoy food catered by Josephine's Modern American Bistro. The Academy Awards will be projected on the giant screen and during commercial breaks, guests will have chances to play trivia games for prizes, bid on silent auction items, and visit the cash bar. Guests will also be encouraged to vote for who they think will be Oscar winners in each category and a prize will be given for most correct guesses.
Tickets are available at the Orpheum Theater, Rainbow's End, Animas Trading Company, and the Theatrikos Box Office by calling 774-1662. Tickets are $35 in advance or $45 the day of the event.
Theatrikos Theatre Company offers high quality theatrical productions for northern Arizona by using the diverse base of community talent, and it provides formal and informal education and outreach programs. Proceeds from the night's event go directly to its Theatrikids Theatre Program, PEACE Project, and to the production of six Mainstage productions. More information about Theatrikos Theatre Company can be found at www.theatrikos.com.

Beagle rescue needs foster homes
Beagles of Arizona Rescue Club (BARC) is looking for foster homes to provide caring, loving environments for rescued beagles. BARC has no shelter facility; all dogs are fostered in volunteers' homes until they are adopted.
Beagles are taken into BARC's foster care program after being released from shelters, humane societies and owners no longer able to care for their dogs. Foster homes are critical to BARC's mission of helping needy beagles find new homes.
In addition to providing daily care and a stable home environment, foster parents observe the dog's personality and habits. This information helps BARC match the beagle's needs with an adoptive family. During foster care, BARC provides for the dog's medical needs.
BARC is a nonprofit, all-volunteer organization providing assistance to homeless and needy beagles. Volunteers can also help with a variety of other activities, including shelter walking, fundraising, event participation and transporting dogs. BARC offers monthly playdates in Flagstaff and Sedona, which are open to all beagle owners, at local dog parks.
For more information or to volunteer, contact BARC at info@azbarc.com, or leave a message at (602) 212-6700.
